Staying in your zone of genius

startup business coach detroit michigan

When you're doing the things that you're uniquely great at and that bring you the most joy... THAT'S your zone of genius.

My goal as a business owner is to maximize the amount of time spent within my zone of genius, and less time doing everything else.

Of course, let's keep it real - if you are a solopreneur or a startup with a small team, you are going to be doing a lot of tasks inside your business that are very far away from your zone of genius. It's all part of the journey.

But, I'm here to encourage you to get intentional about spending more of your time inside your zone of genius as you grow your business.

Here are three tips to help you stay in your zone of genius as an entrepreneur:

1. Delegate smaller tasks to an assistant, contractor or AI automation

You don't need to break the bank with this one! There are tons of affordable options for hiring a part-time virtual assistant or contractor. You can also tap into the ever-growing list of apps that provide automation to take over those small tasks. Take a look at the software(s) you already use in your business and see if there are work flows you can set up to handle small tasks like automated email responses, list segmentation, social media posting, or client confirmation texts. Search around websites like Fiverr or Upwork to find a great contractor who can handle updating your website or designing marketing materials for you.

2. Let go of the idea that "no one else can do it like me" when it comes to administrative tasks in your business

I get it... your business is your baby. But, at some point, every parent has to let their baby spread their wings and become the person they're meant to be. You are not meant to do EVERY task within your business. In fact, you are getting in your own way when you refuse to delegate tasks. And you're stopping your business from becoming the business it is meant to be! Create a list of the day-to-day administrative tasks that are eating away at your time and begin implementing a plan to pass those tasks on to someone else, or ste up some automated work flows that will handle the job. You can thank me later!

3. Create more opportunities to get you into your zone of genius

Are you actually scheduling time on your calendar to do the visionary work ON your business that is required? Can you set better boundaries around your personal life to free up time to dedicate toward activities that are within your zone of genius? Rather than two hours of Netflix & chill, can you borrow an hour of that time to get into your zone of genius? If you find yourself saying "I don't have time for that" often, then I encourage you to take an honest look at how you're spending your time. It's often not a lack of time that's your problem, it's a lack of prioritization.
