Something I hear from coaching clients a lot when we're talking about marketing or self-promotion is "I just don't like talking about myself."
The truth of the matter is that you are most likely experiencing imposter syndrome and feeling nervous to put yourself out there. You don't want to look like another self-absorbed artist who just goes around boasting and bragging about all of the great things you're doing. Or maybe you are just getting started and you feel like you lack experience. Or maybe you simply don't know what to say.
Let's take a step back for a moment...
Think back to a time when you listened to someone's life story. Were you inspired?
Most likely, the answer is yes.
Learning about how a person has landed where they are in life is a fascinating and often super inspiring experience. We're able to see a little bit of ourselves in those people, and be reminded that we're not alone.
YOU have a story to tell. You have experienced hardship, and happiness, and success, and setbacks.
Even if you're just getting started in your career, you still have life experience that is worth sharing.
Simply by being brave enough to share your story, you are opening the doors to others who might be experiencing the same journey as you or hoping to do the things that you're already doing.
So, rather than worry if you're coming off as too arrogant or braggy, spend some time writing out a new artist bio on yourself or a simple resume update. Then adventure over to social media or your blog and share some of your story with the world.
Trust me, the worst that will happen is that no one will listen. But chances are pretty good that you will inspire people you never knew were watching.
