I'm glad you're here.
Welcome to my new virtual home! I bring 17+ years of professional teaching and mentoring experience in the dance industry, along with decades of performing, choreographing, and producing successful events. Since beginning a professional career in dance at the young age of 15, I have traveled nationwide building a strong network of fellow educators, dance studio owners, students and colleagues. Thousands of students have experienced my classes, described as “empowering”, “uplifting”, and “the epitome of energy, light and joy”.
I love teaching and making things happen!
I have facilitated classes on both a small and large scale, working one-on-one with students in private lessons and instructing in a convention/conference setting to hundreds. I also bring extensive experience in developing and implementing events on several scales, everything from 1,000+ seat theatre performances, to intimate cocktail hours for important donors. By developing the "Kathy King" brand into a multi-service company, I am excited to reach a broader audience and make a greater impact in the lives of dance studio owners, young artists and fellow educators everywhere.
A little more about me...
Kathy King is a life-long dance artist, spending time living and training in Memphis, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Detroit. She is the founder/director of the international summer dance event the Brighton Dance Festival (2010-present). Along with teaching regularly at Michelle's Academy of Dance & Performing Arts Center in Brighton, MI, Kathy is also a mentor, coach and freelance educator nationwide.

Most recently she served as the head coach of the Cleary University Dance Team (2016-2020), and as guest artist and rehearsal director at Eastern Michigan University's School of Music & Dance (2011-2019). Each summer, Kathy travels nationwide as a professional dance educator, teaching master classes and seminars to students of all ages.
In 2006, she founded the professional non-profit company Michigan Dance Project, and was named as a Crain's Detroit Business 20 in their 20s in 2013. She received a Special Tribute honor from the State of Michigan in 2019 for her dedication to dance education through her work with Brighton Dance Festival. In addition to teaching dance, Kathy serves or has served on several non-profit boards, including Jodie Randolph Dance, the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, and the Arthur Secunda Museum at Cleary University, and has a fierce passion for empowering others with the confidence and mindset to achieve their greatness.
